We will all miss you very much, Gerry. To colleagues at MLC he was a statistician -and a very good one. To Mere folk, a historian. By his own acccount, a mathematician. But probably a polymath. Brought up the hard way, he knew the cost of things, and also the value. Will always remember the Yapps tastings ... twice round the table, being educated in the joys of white wine! Lost on me, but at least we always bought something to pay for our circuits round the tasting table. He weathered his last weeks with great courage and never lost his sense of humour or his fierce intelligence. And he checked out having enjoyed a Coen Bros. film. Classy! I hope it was washed down with a glass of something nice. Our thoughts are with Caroline, Annabel and Steven. John and Mary Chadwick
